The hero piece
The Standard
Thirteen stripes and fifty stars cut clean through 14-gauge steel, with a mountain range opened across the lower field. The piece that started the line.
Most flag art is printed on metal. This one is cut out of it.
The Standard starts as a single sheet of 14-gauge American steel. Thirteen stripes are laser cut clean through the face, so what you see between them isn't paint — it's the shadow on the wall behind. Fifty five-pointed stars are cut through the canton the same way. The mountain range is a void carved across the lower field, opening the panel to the dark.
Every edge is bent back ninety degrees, forming a frame and standing the piece an inch and a quarter off the wall. That gap is the point. As light moves through the room, the shadows behind the cutouts shift with it. The piece is never quite the same twice.
The rust patina is applied by hand and sealed. No two panels take it the same way.
